DVD review: Campy Twilight is silly, funny and warmly engaging

Catherine Hardwicke takes on the daunting task of bringing Stephenie Meyers' bestselling teen vampire novels to the big screen without fear as she directs Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as two high school students on opposite sides of the living-dead divide.
Though every shred of the narrative is told with unflagging earnestness, the movie still finds ample humour because it's all frightfully silly -- as well as warmly engaging. A smart, campy and suitably moody piece that will have fans swooning and the uninitiated hooting with laughter, Twilight successfully straddles the great divide between earnest teen angst and moronic hokum.
DVD features on the two-disc collector's edition includes documentary The Adventure Begins: The Journey from Page to Screen, Comic-Con Phenomenon and more.
