Robert Pattinson Takes on “Little Ashes”

Robert Pattinson is best known for his roles as a teenager in Twilight (as Edward Cullen) and Harry Potter (as Cedric Diggory) but it looks as if this British actor is trying to shed the squeaky clean image in favor of something a little more risqué than PG-13. Little Ashes_1

In his new film Little Ashes, Pattinson portrays the magnificent artist, Salvador Dali. Set in 1922, Dali is just 18 years old when he arrives in Madrid to attend university. While living in the Residencia de Estudiantes, he grabs the attention of port Federico García Lorca (played by Javier Beltran) and aspiring filmmaker Luis Buñuel (Matthew McNulty).

The trio seem inseparable until it is clear that Dali and Lorca are becoming closer, alienating Buñuel and Lorca’s devoted friend and writer Magdalena (Marina Gatell). Eventually, Buñuel separates from the group and moves to Paris to pursue his artistic dreams while Dali and Lorca spend the summer together at Dali’s seaside village of Cadaques.

Everything seems great and Lorca is welcomed by the Dali family but, one night, the pair give in to their attraction and take their relationship to the next level (I can hear Twlight and Potter fans squirming already!). The plot continues to go through a series of complex twists and looks incredibly interesting.

It hits theaters (limited release) on May 8, 2009.
