“Twlight” star Robert Pattinson is as famous as President Barack Obama claims cast mate Mike Welch, But he better be careful with comparisons!
When Beatle John Lennon said during the ‘60s that his rock and roll group was more popular than Jesus Christ it touched off a storm of worldwide protests.
The comparison with President Obama may be a bit of a stretch, so what about Rob compared to other stars in Hollywood, both under and over age 30?
According to the Ulmer Scale, an index maintained by marketing Web site that rates the popularity and bankability of more than 1,400 Hollywood stars, Rob is well down on the list of popularity and bankability.
In terms of international star power, Will Smith, Brad Pitt and Johnny Deep are still tops. Others in the top 10 include Will Ferrell, Nicholas Cage, Russell Crowe and George Clooney.
Among Young Hollywood stars, Shia LaBeouf leads followed by Zac Efron, and James Franco. Rob comes in fourth, according to the latest ratings published last month.
"I don't think he's ready to carry a big-budget movie on his own," James Ulmer, the creator of the scale, told on E! Entertainment. "I don't think vampire sequels may have legs as long as action franchises in the marketplace."
Rob Pattinson
But try telling that to Rob’s cast mates. Welch, who plays Mike Newton in the vampire saga, said Pattinson can’t stand in one place in public for more than five seconds without being mobbed by fans and well wishers.
"If he's in a room and he looks down and he looks back up, [in that instant] everyone in the room will be staring at him,” Newton told MTV.com. “It's kind of ridiculous. [That level of fame] is literally Rob Pattinson and Barack Obama."
Obama is not Jesus, but the president is one of the most popular in recent memory. He would also be mobbed by fans, if the U.S. Secret Service allowed it. Unfortunately, you’ll never see the president sprinting through an airport. He has his own plane, Air Force One.
There is no doubt, however, that Pattinson is a worldwide sensation in his own right. The actor was little known until he starred as Edward Cullen in the vampire love story “Twilight.” He’s set to appear again in the movie’s sequel “New Moon,” and a follow up “Eclipse” after that.
The movie series, based on four novels by writer Stephanie Meyer, was destined to be a small independent release, until teens everywhere became enthralled with the deep devotion between Cullen and Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart.
Christian Serratos, who plays Angela, said the love people felt for the actor was “understandable”. “Despite all that, he's still completely relaxed and completely laid-back,” she added. “I don't know how it's possible, but he's really just chill."
