This is going to get ugly between ladies. James Franco and Robert Pattinson are both up for the role of the late Jeff Buckley, the singer-songwriter son of Tim Buckley. Jeff had a cult following for years before he finally achieved mainstream success with his first and only studio album, the breathtaking Grace. Then one day at the age of 30, he wandered into Wolf river for what continues to be debated as either a swim or an intentional drowning. His body was recovered several days later.
Buckley wandered into the water fully dressed, singing Led Zepplin's 'Whole Lotta Love' and disappeared. No drugs were found in his system.
So now the pretty and popular Pattinson, 22, has thrown in his interest in pursuing the part, as has Franco, 31. At the risk of really, really aggravating Pattinson fans, Franco is more qualified for this role. First of all, he's the right age. Second, he's been in a lot more 'serious' films than Pattinson has had a chance to get under his belt. Third, Franco is an excellent actor, capable of considerable transformation and diversity. While Pattinson is a talented actor, he's still an up and comer, and merely wanting to see him in every movie ever isn't enough to justify casting him in something like this, that will have purist Buckley fans at the edge of their seats, gritting their teeth over artistic accuracy.
