love of Edward Cullen keeps Twilighters thirsty

After all the Robsten/Robnisten drama that flows from E! Online's Ted Casablanca, we have finally gotten a statement that may be, in fact, very true.

Says TC,

"I think it's really relatable. Like, a lot of girls relate. I relate, wanting that perfect, wholesome, handsome, gentleman."

—New Moon babe Christian Serratos on why she thinks so many girls go gaga for the Twilight saga. Love that even the actress gets just as entranced as we all do by Rob's character. After all, he carries the damn movies, right?

The truth in the matter may be the fact that Edward Cullen (portrayed in the film(s) by Robert Pattinson) might just be the driving force behind Twilight fandom. Edward, that mysteriously attractive, thoughtful, and completely overwhelming character we got thrusted into loving by empathy and perspective by Stephenie Meyer (via her relatable protagonist Bella Swan (portrayed in the films by Kristen Stewart)) take the hearts and minds of a great deal of the Twilight fandom and keeps the viewers thirsty for more from the film series.

Though, that's not to say that there aren't a fair share of "Team Jacob-ites" out there too. Taylor Lautner's portrayal of Jacob Black has certainly become on to appreciate as he fits into the role more and more every day. Jacob, who is a constant fixture in the Twilight series, has his fair share of fans as well.

Nevertheless, the truth may hold - Edward Cullen is certainly one reason why the Twilight series is so popular, don't you think?

Are Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto the New Rob Pattinsons?

What's your official nickname for Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine as a hottie tag team? And will they give R.Pattz a run for his money in the screaming-fan dept?

I shall name them Z-Pine, may they live long and prosper in a hotness so extreme it's—I'm gonna say it! I'm gonna say it!—ILLOGICAL. I so said that just now.

Now that I've established all that, your answer is no. The Star Trek heartthrobs—alone or as a combo, with or without a nickname—do not have the same heat as R.Pattz.

Sorry. And it's not just my opinion. My conclusion comes after solid reporting and mercenary research with real live psychologists. Exactly why Robert Pattinson will remain supreme among fanggirls is due to a specific formula that Z-Pine—impressive eyebrows aside—simply lacks.

Lemme break it down for you:

1. Unlike Z-Pine, who look like real grownups who have real sex, R.Pattz—thanks in part to a role as a perpetual teenage vampire—comes off like a kid. A nonsexually threatening kid.

"Like a boy-band member," says Cooper Lawrence, author of The Cult of Celebrity. "[He's] so nonthreatening that it helps girls feel like it's OK to obsess."

2. Edward Cullen. Z-Pine is nice, but Z-Pine never played Edward Cullen. That's a problem.

"He's the personification of this literary character that girls were already obsessed with," says Lawrence. "So they transfer that obsession to him. Nobody went nuts for Pattinson previously."

Neither Kirk nor Spock, in case you haven't noticed, is Edward Cullen.

3. Seriously, did I mention Edward Cullen? "The passion that Edward and Bella share is intense," Lawrence explains. "Like that all-consuming, trite, cliché, teen-girl love where everything is so emotional and so dramatic that they would die without each other."

4. That's about it.

Compare that with Z-Pine, who doubtless enjoy some amount of long-distance passion from geekettes—but not the masses of fainting tweens who have grown obsessed with Twilight.

To catch up with R.Pattz, Z-Pine would need a teen passion franchise of their own. As soon as Z-Pine appears on Team Werewolf, come back to me, and we'll reassess.

Would Robsten Help or Hurt New Moon?

Hypothetically speaking, of course, if Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were to start dating, do you all think it would make them both look shady?

We're told this seems to be the big concern stressing out the powers that be up in Vancouver, around the New Moon set, now that it seems pretty damn clear there's something smoldering between the two. Perhaps, enough to even warrant a meeting between R's and K's peeps.

See, our babe Stewart is supposedly still in a loving relaysh with Michael Angarano. So if that duo happened to break up and she coincidentally rebounded with a sexy costar, it could make her look slutty, and the man in waiting, sneaky, apparently (we don't think so).

That's why it would be much easier to just start phasing out the "current" boyfriend, something rumored to be in the works:

The media setups (Rob and Nikki, Jackson and Kristen) just aren't flying with you smart little Twi-Twits anymore, and people are most definitely taking notice.

Life & Style reports there's still drama with Nik and Robert, but we're told that stuff is still being pushed to the media to help slowly "out" Kristen and Rob.

Apparently Pattz and Stew are getting so fed up with being told what (and who) to do all the time that they are "refusing to play along anymore." How deelish!

"Rob has been seen coming back from the direction of Kristen's hotel at 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m., respectively, on different nights," snitches our VBC eyes.

But chill, micromanaging studio types, maybe he's just coming back from a bar around the general area, right?

We really don't see what the big whoop would be if they were dating. Rob and Kristen are young and absolutely gorge—they don't need to be settled down right now. Mr. & Mrs. Smith hardly bombed at the box office; we doubt New Moon would either if it came out that the two were bumping uglies.

In fact, we'd put money down that it would help, if anything! People seem to be more obsessed with Edward and Bella rather than Rob and Kristen anyway. Fans would eat this crap up. Don't you all agree?

Time for your daily dose of New Moon horniness: We told you yesterday that Nikki Reed and Robert Pattinson are most definitely not knocking relationship boots behind the scenes. And we’ve pointed out some weird goings-on with R and our gal Kristen (happy belated birthday, babe). So that left many of us wondering where Kristen’s boyfriend, Michael Arangano, is during all of this very breathless Twilight back-and-forth. A friend to the “couple” spills: “Michael is really insecure when it comes to Rob,” ‘fesses a pal close to the romance pentagon up north. We’re told Arangano hardly laughs off Robsten rumors. “Rob and Kristen would have to be very sneaky if they were dating. Everywhere [Kristen] goes, [Michael] now wants to go too. He’s extremely jealous. And let’s just say he’s been trying to be up in Vancouver a lot lately,” adds our Industry insider. So where does that leave Rob then, if there's a third wheel around? “By himself or with his publicist or manager, usually,” we’re told. Disclaimer here folks: When we said yesterday that Robert “f--ks who he wants,” we did not mean it necessarily in a man-whoring way. Doug Reinhardt he most decidedly is not. We love our Pattz! We simply meant that R will not go screw or date girls just because he’s told to do so...à la other Twilight-ites. We hear that Rob wanted to disprove that rumor so badly that he purposely tried to be photographed out with Kristen last week. Easier said than done. “He doesn’t want [Kristen] or anyone to think he’s dating Nikki.” God this stuff is so juicy! We’d way rather watch this romance crap on the big screen. Wouldn’t you? Or should we wait to see New Moon before saying so? Nah...
