'Twilight' Star Welch Tempts Fate For Pattinson

Robert Pattinson might be in for some big trouble thanks to 'Twilight' co-star Michael Welch. In a recent interview, Welch was asked who would win in a fight - the fictional Edward Cullen or Chuck Norris. Michael replied with, "I have to go with Edward Cullen, although you know Walker was pretty invincible, but I don't think that Walker's fractured slow-mo could save him against Edward. In fact, in real life Rob's no slouch in the ring."Welch quickly realized his answer was probably not the best and added, "[Robert] could take somebody, but Chuck, I don't quite think so."Do you guys agree with Welch?

Sam Bradley talks working with Robert Pattinson

Last November, Sam Bradley got the kind of break that any fledgling singer-songwriter would kill for. His song, “Never Think,” was included on the soundtrack to Twilight, which went on to become the best-selling movie soundtrack since 2002’s Chicago — no small feat, considering the music industry’s declining sales. It also didn’t hurt that the song was co-written and performed by Twilight star Robert Pattinson.

“I knew the movie was going to be a big deal,” the London native says. “I knew that the soundtrack would also do well, but I did not think that it would trickle down so much to the co-writers such as myself. For that (success) to break my own music, I think, is quite extraordinary.”
Twilight’s astronomical success gave serious career boosts to a number of artists on its soundtrack, including Franklin rock group Paramore, whose song, “Decode,” was the album’s lead single. Bradley remembers his sudden surge in popularity last year as “extremely overwhelming and difficult to manage.”
“It was just me (managing my career), because it never needed to be anyone other than just me. Then thousands of emails started coming in, and thousands of (MySpace) plays a day, and gigs offered here, here and here. I didn’t even have a manager. I don’t know, I was lost for a little while.”
Today, Bradley has a clear — and ambitious — game plan. He’s currently on tour with Top 40 rockers Thriving Ivory, and he’s taking advantage of a break in the schedule to play a headlining gig at Nashville club 3rd and Lindsley on July 3rd. At the end of the month, he’ll head to TwiCon, a three-day Twilight fan convention held in Dallas. Bradley says he’s happy to be associated with the Twilight phenomenon.
“I know I’m going to break out of it, and I know that it’s going to be a wonderful, blessed thing that has happened in my life, and something that can go on my resume, as one of many (things.)”
As for plans to work with Pattinson in the future, he says, “We’re just two friends that play guitar, so I’m sure that’ll come up again.”

‘Twilight’: Get Your Fangs On A New Special-Edition Book Out Today!

Getting sick of scavenging across the Internet to get your daily dose of Rob, Kristen and Taylor? Us Weekly is helping to make satiating your “Twilight” addiction easier by releasing “Sexy Stars of Twilight,” a 72-page homage to the vampire, his love and their pals.
The book, available today for $9.99 on newsstands and for order on Barnes & Noble, features posters, photos, cast interviews and “New Moon” secrets.
The seven pull-out posters included will feature four posters of heartthrob Robert Pattinson, one of Taylor Lautner, one of Rob and Kristen Stewart and one of the cast.
Most of the photos and cast interviews with Rob, Kristen, Taylor and Stephenie Meyer have been run in Us Weekly, but not all, says a source from the magazine. So fans looking for new material will be pleased with “Sexy Stars.” The 140 photos included in the book were compiled from a variety of sources, and the cast interviews are a collection from Us, which go all the way back to the beginning of “Twilight” fanaticism.
The book also includes photos from the “New Moon” set (including ones of Bella and Edward’s reunion kiss!), which we, for one, can’t get enough of.
That still hasn’t gotten you hooked? The book contains an essay on the Bella and Edward love story, pictures of Kristen Stewart chronicling her ascent into Hollywood, a look at the stars new to “New Moon” (ahem Dakota Fanning and Michael Sheen), some photos of the Quileute wolf pack and a peak at the stars when they’re living their lives off-set.
“Twilight” fans looking to get their hands on DuWop’s Lip Venom V should head to their nearest Kroger’s store, where they can get a sample for free with the purchase of the book.
So Twilighters, how many of you will be buying this book today?

Robert Pattinson: ‘Twilight Saved me’

Robert Pattinson is thankful for his role in Twilight — because he fears, that with out it, he would have turned into a nothing more than a lazy layabout.
The life-changing vampire role of Edward Cullen not only launched the humble British actor into worldwide fame — but also stopped him from moping around at home with nothing to do.
And he’s very grateful for it too.
“Sometimes you just don’t know where you’re going in the world,” says Rob. “Before I got the role in Twilight I didn’t really know what I was doing.
“At the time I didn’t really know if I did want to be an actor, I didn’t know what I was doing, I hadn’t gone to university, and I was just bumming around and not feeling particularly good at anything.
“But at the time I was desperately thinking that I would never reach or achieve my own goals that I had set for myself.”
The actor, 23, recently revealed that he’s looking forward to getting his hair cut.

Teens can sink their teeth into reading

HUDSON - Capitalizing on the success of the vampire flick, “Twilight,” the Hudson Public Library this summer is crafting a program to encourage teens to sink their teeth into reading.
From now through August 20, teens can participate in a program that rewards them for reading. Vampire motifs -- including a puzzle board from a graphic vampire novel and a life-sized cutout of “Twilight”” star Robert Pattinson -- can be found around the library.
According to teen librarian Nancy DelVecchio, the program hopes to attract an audience that typically shies away from libraries.
“It’s hard to get teenagers to read,” said DelVecchio. “It’s hard to get them to come into the library. Many come in to use the internet or to check out DVDs, but not books.”
The Teen Summer Reading Program targets kids going into sixth grade and up, and focuses on titles that teens love, including the “Twilight” series. The teen book club is currently reading Gabrielle Zavinís book “Elsewhere.” The Library’s Facebook page, which DelVecchio recently launched, builds buzz and keeps book club members informed.
For every book teens read this summer, they will receive two raffle tickets to be entered to win any of 25 prizes. These rewards include a silver Ipod Nano, pass for 4 people to Trombetta’s Farm mini-golf, gift certificate for four for weekday golf at Twin Springs Golf Course, two tickets to Six Flags New England, a $50 gift certificate to EB Games, autographed photo of Justin Masterson from the Boston Red Sox, and many more prizes.
Each day, teens can also answer questions and get a piece of candy and a puzzle piece, which is placed on a poster-sized puzzle. Once all the pieces have been put on the puzzle board it will reveal a page out of a vampire themed graphic novel. On the completed board is a coded message, which the teens need to decipher. Once they decipher the message, they earn three raffle tickets.
Local comic book artist Paul Ryan, who has worked for Marvel and DC Comics, will offer a workshop for teens ages 13-17 on July 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. Ryan has worked for Marvel and DC on such titles as Fantastic Four, The Avengers, Superman and Batman: No Man’s Land.
“He will teach the teens how a comic is produced, what makes good story structure, then show the basics of drawing, perspective and visual storytelling,” DelVecchio said. Sign up is required for this workshop and it is limited to teens ages 13-17. Call or come to the library to sign up.
At an end-of-summer reading party on August 21, the staff will announce raffle winners and award two door prizes: the Robert Pattinson cutout and a $25 gift certificate to Regal Cinema.
The teen program is just one part of the library’s vibrant programs for all age groups. A mother/daughter book group meets regularly in the library, as do two adult book groups. The library also has a thriving summer reading program for children.
According to DelVecchio, the library’s summer reading program has already attracted 60 teens, and last year 150 signed up.
To sign up for any of these programs, visit the Library at 3 Washington Street or call 978-568-9644. For more information visit the library’s web site, hudsonpubliclibrary.com.

Stephen Moyer Calls Robert Pattinson a "Pussy"

Stephen Moyer stars on the HBO drama True Blood.
But the piercing screams he elicits as the vampire Bill Compton are nothing compared with the ire his recent comment to Marie Claire will produce from Twilight fans.
In a recent interview with the magazine, Moyer was asked about fellow vampire portrayer Robert Pattinson. The True Blood star said:
"He's a pussy! He's the Slim-Fast, Diet Coke of vampires."
Oh, Stephen. You have no idea what you've gotten yourself into, do you? If you think your fangs are sharp, just wait for the criticism Pattinson lovers are about to send your way...

Twilight's Rathbone Hints He'll Give Pattinson A Vampire Smackdown

Yesterday we met a real honest-to-god Twilight vampire, but he didn't sparkle. Still, Jackson Rathbone who plays doe-eyed Jasper in New Moon talked about what's different in the sequel, and what else he has in store for Edward.
We caught up with Jasper Cullen yesterday, and while we didn't have time to ask him about his lack of commitment to sparkle motion, we did get a little New Moon insight. First we asked what's going to be different between the first and second Twilight vampire flicks.
"I would say that Twilight is my favorite because it takes you into this realm, into this fantasy reality" Harwick explained. "As the films progresses [in the second book] you get deeper into the lore of the mythical world that we're establishing with the werewolves. [It] gets more into what the vampire society and legacy is, it keeps getting deeper. Plus you get the other side of that love story."
But how have things changed since the first film's director, Catherine Hardwicke, was let go? Rathbone talked about the new vibe on set, calling the first one a bit more indie. "We were all making it together and the way Catherine Hardwicke directs, it was a really fun vibe... In terms of having a new director [Chris Weitz], nothing really changed too much. It was just a different subtle, vibe, because the director kind of manages the energy on set, and it was great. We all wanted to come together and make another great piece of art for the fans. It's really about what they want to see, because they're the ones buying the tickets and what-not."
And finally, in regards to the scene where he gets flung into a piano by a pasty Robert Pattinson, Rathbone hinted that he gives as good as he gets: "That's only the beginning of it. They didn't show the entire thing. It's gonna be a really action-packed movie."

Robert Pattinson is a rising star in the indie film industry

Too often do actors’ personal lives outshine their craft and become the focus of the nation’s attention. Take Brad Pitt for instance. His truly diverse body of work is second to his relationship with Angelina Jolie and continuing drama with Jennifer Ainston. This has become true in the case of Robert Pattinson, the beautiful British 23 year old star of Twilight and the newly released Little Ashes, now playing at the Plano Angelika. His relationship with Kristen Stewart is front page news, not his recently brave endeavor into the venture of no-holding back cinema. He does not have much work experience but if his first two indie projects are any telling of what is to come, there is definitely something to look forward to with him.
It has to be stated that Pattinson undoubtedly makes a perfect Edward Cullen. He plays the tortured soul with a seriousness that the devoted fans crave. His benign escapades endear him further to his admirers. Numerous stories surface about his compassion and patience towards the thousands of screaming girls he has run across in the past months. He is gregarious, warm, intelligent, down-to-earth and genuine in all of his interviews. But he can be more than a teen idol and transcend the boy of the moment craze.

He shined as awkward Art in How To Be, an honestly funny film about learning self-dependency while pursuing passions of the heart. His hair alone can cause a chuckle or two. Pattinson’s character Art is going through what he calls a “quarter-life crisis”. After his girlfriend dumps him for being morose all the time, he moves back in with his unresponsive and indifferent parents. He tries to volunteer at a local recreational center but is fired and his career at the supermarket leaves him feeling unsatisfied. Art just wants to compose music with his docile friends, belting on songs like “Choking on the Dust”. His unsupportive mother constantly tells him that she “wonders” about his life and he feels more alienated and sad. Art’s desire to improve himself leads him to the book “It’s Not Your Fault” by a self-help guru. In attempt to find inner-peace, he pays the author five thousand pounds to be his life coach and help him be more normal. Dr. Ellington, his new teacher, tells him stereotypical motivational treatise, like to achieve a state of “coffin” (conciliatory objective future focus introspective nurture). Throughout the film, they work together in attempt to reconcile the cold upbringing he had. This gem of a film, which can be seen on IFC’s On Demand Channel on Time Warner, is quirky and entertaining.

Pattison’s latest experiment with independent film, Little Ashes, is an unrelenting, faithful examination of the relationship between the poet Frederico Garcia Lorca and Salvador Dali. The story follows from when he was an 18 year old student in pursuit of what he referred to as the construction of his own genius to his expulsion from the surrealist movement. Although the timeframe presented could be hard to follow for anyone unfamiliar with the history of Spain, the film is an excellent piece of work for the most part. It spares no details, goes for the punch in the gut, the heart paroxysm, and the bewildered face all at the same time. The acting from both Javier Beltran (Lorca) and Pattinson (Dali) is solid and passionate. Their love scenes were virginally awkward yet powerful, an accurate depiction of a young love. Pattinson threw himself into the eccentric persona that Salvador Dali was, allowing himself to be immersed in all of his wild habits. He captured almost everything about Dali, including those captivating and untamed eyes.

Obviously not scared of a challenge, Pattinson shows a lot of promise. Despite the overwhelming success of Twilight, he remains more low-key then some reality television stars. If Pattinson continues to balance his body of work between mainstream and independent projects, he will build the respect he is entitled to and produce some truly great works.

Twilight Director Talks About ‘New Moon’ & ‘Twilight’

Catherine Hardwicke gave an interview to Reelzchannel back in March 2009,and she had a lot to say about what went on behind the scenes of the Filming of “Twilight”. She also tells what she thought about them hiring a different director for “New Moon”,and how she felt about it.She tells why she decided to publish her “Twilight” Director’s notebook which features a lot of behind the scenes photos, and interesting info about how the movie was made.
She revealed how sometimes she would stand in for Kristen Stewart on some of the scenes because she would be the only other female on the set. Then she revealed how some of the actors wore her clothes on the set. She said Rachelle Lefevre who plays Victoria would wear her pants sometimes. Cam Gigandet who played James the vampire, wore her jacket in the film. Kristen Stewart wore her t-shirt in the bedroom kissing scene.
She also said that she thought it was kind of good that they picked a new director for “New Moon” because it’s good to have a new energy, and new take on it to make it exciting. Then to conclude, they went over Catherine’s favorite line in the movie which was when James (Cam Gigandet) the evil tracking vampire said, “You Brought A Snack”.
I like Catherine Hardwicke. She’s seems pretty cool.

'Twilight': Why are Bella and Edward really attracted to one another?

Michael Sheen, who plays Aro in the The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has said how seriously Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson take their roles in the franchise, and after reading this Metro World News interview with Stewart, I'm starting to believe him.
• Explaining Bella's role in the second film, she says, "She loses the man she's in love with, but she also loses her entire life plan, and she's so young to have to be forced into a decision like that. It's just a glorified, elaborate version of the worst breakup you've ever been through. All of a sudden you question everything. All of a sudden you know nothing and you're dropped in the middle of a freezing cold ocean. Oddly, we have a character that's warm enough and bright enough to bring her out of that, and it's truly gut-ripping. Because as perfect as Jacob is for her, she holds on to an ideal, the ultimate fiery love that she has for Edward even though it's not comfortable, it's not practical and it's not a good idea. So it's really a very strong thing to do. It takes someone who really trusts themselves."
• Asked if Bella is introverted or just seeking an ideal, she says, "It's not that she's incredibly introverted. She's just yet to have found a connection that is truthful. She's a seeker of the truth. She's not one to get wrapped up in something that is a fantasy. She doesn't set herself up for disappointment. So that's what makes the story with her and Edward so compelling, in that this is a girl that normally wouldn't do something this crazy."
All this talk about Edward being "an ideal" and a "connection that is truthful" made me think back to a conversation I had with a friend who didn't understand why Bella and Edward were actually drawn to one another -- besides the fact that he's hellahot and her blood is like his own personal heroin. Is it more romantic if a love is somehow destined -- like in a scent or an imprint -- or if the connection is actually explained? Do you feel like it's explained in Twilight? Is it as basic as a lion wanting to take care of a lamb, and the lamb wanting to feel protected? (Probably not, right, since Bella isn't actually safe with Edward?) Maybe Bella is the only teen in Forks who ever wanted to listen to Edward's Debussy CD?

Metro Canada goes behind the scenes of New Moon in Vancouver

As the fourth installment of Metro News Canada's behind-the-scenes coverage of The Twilight Saga: New Moon (after bringing us a teaser first, then an interview with Taylor Lautner, then a wonderful discussion with Chris Weitz), we have Kristen Stewart.
Says Metro,

What is it like to be back on set doing another Twilight film?

It’s a little bit surreal to be back doing a second one, just because it’s something that I thought about for an entire year and now it’s happening. But it’s sort of like I couldn’t wait any longer.
It’s hard. Usually you finish a movie and there’s a very long grieving process. You have to lose the character. You have to drop it from your mind or else it just continues to bug you. In this case, I couldn’t drop her completely and I worked in between, which is a strange sensation. It’s weird how easy it was to slip right back into it. I don’t know if it’s because I have such a reference, like the book, or because I knew that I just had to do it. I don’t know, but it feels good. It feels like I can finally release the pressure.

Isn’t that pressure kind of self-inflicted?

Yeah, I have that feeling on every movie that I do. It’s just that this one, I had to wait a year. Unless there’s something about the story or that character I’m playing that literally needs to be fulfilled -- like, consummated -- unless it’s actually lived through and physically manifested, it’s just a story and it’s not done. So until you actually bring it to life, you basically have the capability of murdering the character on the page. If you don’t do it justice, then nobody else is ever going to see those things and you’re never going to learn from those experiences because you didn’t do it right.
So yeah, the thought of having to live through something that I find so worthwhile, and then subsequently have people learn from that through your own experience, I would do anything. I would jump off a cliff for it. Oh! There’s cliff-jumping in our movie. Perfect! (Laughs)
. . .

You were virtually unknown when you shot Twilight. How has your life changed since its phenomenal success?

My life hasn’t changed. Most circumstances I find myself in are different than they were a year ago, but I myself haven’t changed...however a normal 18-year-old girl would change in a year. But it makes things so much easier. I would do it for free every day [even] if nobody saw it. I cannot describe how good it feels to actually have something that is truly into your heart and soul actually affecting people. And that’s amazing. So that’s the biggest change.
Has success changed you?
It didn’t change me, it changed things around me a little bit...I’m so used to doing movies that nobody wants to see. To put your heart and soul into something for years of your life and have it actually affect people is probably the most satisfying, and that is a completely ineffective word to describe how satisfying it is.

Do you feel a responsibility towards the author's fans and the movie fans?

Yeah, absolutely. It’s a strange thing. You start something and you know that it’s going to take on a life of its own, but its already something so whole -- there are so many people that you’re going to inevitably either make happy or not. Everyone’s understanding of the story and love for it is going to show, even though there are little issues that everyone’s going to have because everybody reads the book differently. So of course we have a massive responsibility. Because of them, we’re able to do what we like to do.

What was it like coming back to a different director?

As an actor, you don’t work with the same director on every film. And this, it’s a continuation. It’s the same story but it is a different movie. I love Catherine (Hardwicke). She’s a dear friend of mine, but Chris (Weitz) – it just works out.
Besides all the technical, logistical reasons, Chris is so devoted and because he’s a man, there’s a common question. How is it having a man director? Is it a huge difference? You can’t make generalizations about people like that. He’s one of the most compassionate human beings I’ve ever met. Unfalteringly compassionate. He cares way too much for the story, and you need that. So he’s perfect.

How would you describe it to someone who hasn’t read the books or seen Twilight?

Anybody who’s ever been broken up with will probably watch this movie, and their temperature will probably go up.
How do I describe this? It’s a movie about ultimate devotion being ripped from you and thinking that your entire world that you’ve established is wrong. And then trying to get it back and realizing that it’s all OK. (Laughs) And vampires, werewolves, too, so that makes it even more exciting. Robert Pattinson is just so cute. So is Taylor Lautner. That’s what I would tell someone who doesn’t know about the movie yet.

You’re still quite young. Do you want to continue making movies or perhaps go to college?

I absolutely have no foresight. I used to think I had a lot when I was younger. I worked really hard in school to give myself options, and I’ve literally taken those options and thrown them down the toilet. Purposely – not to make that sound totally negative. It’s what I want. I want to keep doing what I’m doing.
It’s funny, people ask me all the time: “What do you do for fun? What do you do when you’re not acting?”
It’s a strange thing, acting. It’s a business, it’s a job, everything like that. All it is, is self-reflection. You just never stop caring about people and I’ve never stopped doing that, so I’m sure it’ll seep into other areas of my life. I want to write. I’m not going to school because I can’t take the structure of it, but I’m not going to stop learning.
The full story is available here. Tomorrow, you should expect one more installment to this series from Metro, but who will the cast member be? I've got my guess, and I'm sure you do too.

'Twilight' Star Robert Pattinson Hand-Picked 'Spider Monkey' Line

VENICE, California — In the time since it was first revealed by MTV last year, it has gone on to become one of the most famous lines in the "Twilight" world.

"You'd better hold on tight, spider monkey."

And while an actual spider monkey isn't nearly as cute as Kristen Stewart, the phrase has taken on a life of its own, inspiring MySpace pages, T-shirts, and dozens of other fan tributes. Now, "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke is cluing fans in on the eight other lines that nearly became Robert Pattinson dialogue in that "spider monkey" scene.

"There's some stuff in here like ... well, like the 'Hold on tight, spider monkey' line," laughed Hardwicke last week when we visited her house to see the fabled rooms where she held her "Twilight" casting sessions. In the kitchen's glass case, she showed us a dog-eared copy of her shooting script — with the "spider monkey" line scribbled into a margin.

"That would be [written in] the night before," Hardwicke remembered of the evening before she shot the now-famous scene where Kristen Stewart's Bella hops on the back of Pattinson's Edward, getting an eye-opening glimpse at his superhuman powers as they frolic through the woods together. "I woke up in the middle of the night. I thought, 'They're going to be climbing that tree, and they're not going to have anything to say. It's just going to be another scene of them looking into each other's eyes.' "

Unfortunately, the Writers' Strike had begun, and "Twilight" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg was no longer available to provide dialogue. "So I typed up, like, 10 ideas," Hardwicke recalled. "And thought, "OK, maybe they could say this ...' "

At this point during our interview, Hardwicke went over to her computer and printed out a sheet from her personal archives. Titled "Sc. 86 pt. DALOGUE ALTERNATIVES," the sheet lists the eight other options that Hardwicke wrote that evening.

"I gave it to Rob, the whole list," she explained. "And I said, 'Rob, which one do you want to say?' And he goes, 'I want to say the spider-monkey one'."

Hardwicke's unused lines range from simplistic to silly, over-the-top to right on target. Now, we give you a peek at some of the alternative lines that Pattinson did not select:

Option 1:
Edward: You're not scared of heights, are you? Bella: Not that I know of ...

Option 2:
Edward: Hold on tight ... Bella: Don't worry ...

Option 3:
Edward: Wrap your legs around me like a spider monkey. Bella: Done.

Option 4:
Edward: Got a good grip? Don't let go. Bella: No chance of that, buddy.

Option 5
Edward: Prepare for liftoff ...

Reading over her unchosen chunks of dialogue, Hardwicke told us that she was glad Rob picked the now-immortal "spider monkey" line. "It's a fun line," she grinned. "Thank god he picked that one."

To read the three remaining "spider monkey" alternatives that didn't make the cut — including the line that Harwdicke wanted to include as a tribute to the movie "All About Eve" — head on over to the MTV Movies Blog. There, you can take a quiz on which lines are real — and which is the fake one that we've thrown in there for fun. On Monday, the fake will be revealed.

GQ writer apologizes for insulting Twilight and Robert Pattinson fans

If there were ever a more (self-proclaimed) "snarky" commentator on the fandom of Remember Me and The Twilight Saga: New Moon star Robert Pattinson, this might just be it.

Said Alex Blimes on June 3rd,

[B]land compliments and gushy endearments aside, no one has really been able to explain how he differs from the other beautiful, intelligent, gifted young actors out there. As I say, I've no argument with any of your points. Pattinson really is quite a guy, and I join you in wishing him all the best, I really do. But still, did he just get lucky, or is there more to it that that? Perhaps we'll never know.

Meanwhile, there's something else that's bothering me. I'm posting this stuff on GQ.COM, a site aimed primarily at British men. I take it you're not all regular visitors, so how does it work? Do you sit by your terminals with your hands down your pants, staring at your Twilight screensavers and waiting for your "Robert Pattinson" Google Alerts to ping, drawing your attention to some tossed off slandering of your hero's name? In the absence of a sexy vampire in your lives, what the hell is eating you women?

After said post, as you might imagine, Blimes was inundated with answers to his questions. One such answer was from a pseudonym commentator named "Fluffynuts" (who, by the way, in the original post caused Blimes to initially state that he would "shut up in [his] face").

Said he/she,

Mr. Bilmes's wide-eyed innocense is hysterical. His magazine is part of the media system and your job is to create hype. And people buy into hype all the time, whether it be an actor, fashion, cars, diets, etc. Obviously there are people out there who see Robert Pattinson as Edward and couldn't give a flying fig about the man behind him. There are people who wouldn't know him from a hole in the ground had it not been for Twilight. There are people who like him in SPITE of the fact that he played Edward. At the end of the day, I believe that plenty of women have said it best: When it comes to what women want and find attractive, men somehow can be completely in the dark. Is it a logic thing? That men want tangible assets for the objects of their desire? Legs, boobs, nice hair even if the only thing holding it up is about as interesting and trite as a wet noodle? Are women less shallow and find unconventional things attractive if there is some substance there? A sense of humor, intelligence, self-deprication, and what might pass as a hint of something more than a shell? All I know is that the men (and women) who blather on and on and on about how they don't "get" it sound just as vapid and vacant as the fans who can't put a coherent thought together on the guy. There are a million cliches for it. There's no accounting for taste. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And this one: An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance. Good, bad or somewhere in between, Robert is going to be faultless to some and irreparably faulted to others. It's the difference between recognizing the human element and simply accepting an image. I wrote something flippant to GQ to answer what I thought was a flippant question. Alex Bilmes obviously wants hits more than he wants enlightenment and I don't think there is any one thing a fan can say or a thousand things a thousand fans can say that will give him the answer that he's looking for. What he fails to understand is that the answer to his question is just as complex as the man he's asking about appears to be. As far as my referenced sign off- I find it ironic that the only comment Mr. Bilmes chose to make an example of is a quotation from one of Mr. Pattinson's films. And NOT the one with the laughably sparkly vampire.

The very next day, a new post came from Blimes, apologizing (sort of) for his vapid remarks about Pattinson's fandom. Said he on June 4th,

I feel I owe you all an apology. You're right: what I wrote yesterday was snarky and dishonest and mostly designed to rile you and I'm not proud of it. I'm sorry.

The truth is I am genuinely curious about Robert's appeal. I'm a heterosexual man, 36 years old, gainfully employed, in a relationship. We simply don't have these kind of obsessions, and I for one find them hard to understand. I mean, I think Megan Fox is attractive, but I don't spend much time thinking about her. Certainly don't feel the need to communicate with fellow Meganites, to defend her when she's maligned, to shout my love from the message-board rooftops.

This is not in any way to belittle your feelings for Robert or denigrate your activities online or off-. None of this is meant to sound condescending. I'm a person who considers himself reasonably intelligent and who spends his working life monitoring, reporting on and interacting with celebrity culture. I'm fascinated by fame, and famous people, and drawn to them for reasons I don't fully understand myself. So I can empathise with your love for Robert, even if I wonder at its intensity.

We all know his antecedents, of course, from James Dean to Leonardo DiCaprio. There's nothing new about the worship of screen idols, but it's been a long time since I've seen anything approaching the strength of emotion that surrounds Robert. That's why I'm so curious.

While a debasement of Blimes' commentary is probably not in order for purposes of this discussion, it is a wonder why, after all that Pattinson has accomplished and looks to accomplish in the near (and, hopefully, distant) future, one such as him - a so-called prober of all things celebrity - could not understand the nature of Pattinson's appeal. At any rate, the apology was issued.

The tints in Twilight and New Moon

Over at NewMoonMovie.org, they have a very interesting discussion going on about the shades (or "tints," rather) of Twilight versus those of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Comparing some of the official screenshots that were released yesterday, NMM notes that, while we knew Twilight to have a "blue-ish" hue, The Twilight Saga: New Moon looks a little brassy (or "golden" as they say).
Drawing up this excellent photo portrayal of the distinctions (with their technicolor wizardry, it seems), the site re-creates the Twilight-esque azul and contrasts it with the New Moon oro-aura.
This distinction, it seems, is quite sharp, and paints a nice picture of what some of the directorial deviations between the two films would look like head-to-head.
While Twilight's blue-ish imagery was embedded in nearly all of its scenery (anywhere from Tyler's van to Dr. Cullen's shirt and tie), The Twilight Saga: New Moon's brassy look may just be a result of a sharper image. On the other hand, Twilight was ushering in the "Forks" feel (cloudy, rainy, etc.), while New Moon's position is a step above - the groundwork on this front has been laid.
There are a plethora of potential reasons for these visual dynamics, but one constancy remains - the two films certainly do have a different look. Kudos to NewMoonMovie.org for revealing this so eloquently.

Twilight Cruise with New Moon Cast?

How deep is your love for Twilight: Deep enough to go on a week-long Alaskan cruise if the only stars you were promised -- so far -- are Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) and Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen)? I'm sure the actors are lovely people, who will be in it to win it at the Q&A and autograph sessions and costume ball, but this star power would not be enough to make this the Alaskan cruise I'm going to take someday. Actually, I don't know that even Robert Pattinson sitting on the veranda of my ocean view suite with his guitar in one hand and a mango margarita for me in the other would get me on this ship -- unless EW let me expense it. (Damn economy.)

Twilight: Edward and Bella: The Best Love Story Ever

“I think Twilight Twilight I have seen in a very long time……. It felt more like you were watching a home movie and that you were a part of it, not like you were watching just a movie. It touched my life in a way that I can’t really explain. It makes me want to be a part of the Cullen family, to just be a part of the movie, a small part, doesn’t even matter how. Ah and Edward Cullen, he plays the part so well, he makes his part so believable. His face is chiseled so well that its as close to perfection as you can get, he has so many different looks to his face if you didn’t notice in the movie, his eyes seem to have changed with his expressions. A man of many faces and what a gorgeous face. Also his wanting not to be the monster, to put Bella above all else, to keep her safe at all cost. The love even though he doesn’t truly believe he deserves it or that he should love her. Yes the Lion fell in LOVE with the Lamb and oh how magical it all seems. It is what all women truly want but in reality we know that men are never going to be that way. To find such a man would in itself be a miracle.
So in saying this, that is why this movie gives us so much. We can loose ourselves and have an alternate reality and put ourselves in Bellas place for a little while and have what we so desire. I have so many times and I will many times again. When you have never had even the slightest bit of what she has gotten from Edward it makes it all the sweeter to pretend for just that little while when all the world goes away except for you and Edward, that its you that feels his touch and his lips are touching yours. What a dream, what a fantasy, what an alternate reality. Thanks Stephanie for giving me just a glimpse of a bitter sweet love story and letting me be in that world for a moment, a day, in my dreams, in my nights laying in bed alone thinking of my Edward.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's First Twilight Kiss

The kiss everyone is talking about
Twilight stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are nominated for the Best Kiss MTV Movie Award this weekend. But do you know what happened the first time they kissed?
Catherine Hardwick, the filmaker of the first Twilight movie, wanted to see what kind of chemistry Kristen Stewart, in the role of Bella, would have with some potential Edwards. So she invited Kristen over to her house, along with several Edward prospects for what she calls "chemistry readings."
Kristen Stewart sat on Catherine's bed and attempted kissing three different actors. Then Robert Pattinson came over and Kristen met him for the first time. And right after meeting each other, the two shared their first kiss. According to Catherine, "They had to do it three times. The first time, they went a little too far, and I was like, 'I can't show this to anybody at the studio!'" Wow, so Kristen and Robert were perfect for each other from the start.
Catherine also says that Kristen immediately told her she wanted the role of Edward Cullen to go to Robert Pattinson and that "she basically threatened me." We think Kristen made the right choice with Robert Pattinson and clearly Twilight fans thought the kiss was perfect. But was it perfect enough to win an MTV Movie Award? We're going with yes.
